Buns of Summer

July 18th, 2006 by erkki

To give this site some actual content for a change, I decided to upload a few bun pictures from my cell phone. I hope this encourages my Fellow Founders to do the same. It’s summer time and we should be eating buns every day. Still there are no bun reports! Very disturbing.

The first picture was taken in the small town of Vammala. Vammala means something like Injury Town in English, but as far as the bun was concerned, it had no visible injuries nor did it inflict any injuries to me. I can’t say I’m disappointed, but I wonder why they chose to pick such an ominous name for their community if they don’t intend to hurt anyone. The bun itself, an oversized triangular doughnut (kolmiomunkki in Finnish), was ok. (BTW, we definitely need a bun glossary on this site.)

Injured Bun?

The second picture portrays a muffin enjoyed at the Korkeasaari Zoo in Helsinki. The muffin was a typical mass-produced industrial bun: dry and pretty tasteless. However, kudos to the zoo for selling some delicious fair trade coffee. It sure adds to the enjoyment when you know your consumption makes the world a better place and the big coffee corporation poor coffee farmer gets a proper payment. If only anyone sold fair trade buns.

Zoo Bun

The third and last picture was taken last weekend in Moominworld in Naantali. I had heard rumours about their savoury doughnuts in advance and they proved correct. The bun was simply excellent. Sounds too good to be true? It is. The Moominworld itself could be named Parents’ Wallet Exploitation World. Entrance fee for each and every family member is 17 euros and almost everything else costs too much as well. As much as I like eating perfect doughnuts surrounded by anusless white characters, that’s a bit too much for my budget.

A bunhole in our rules?

July 7th, 2006 by Tero P

Hi there, fellow bundits!

I was just approached by a stranger (well, a familiar, actually, but a stranger would have been as good for this purpose) who asked me a question: how should the rules of our Society, especially our beloved rule 5.5,  be understood when we’re dealing with anti-matter? Could an anti-matter bun be considered a valid bun for a Friday?

I was left speechless (which, as such, happens rarely – unfortunately). Would you have any advice?

Mandatory Bun is Good

April 19th, 2006 by Tero P

The Friday Bun Society hereby declares that one specific Finnish phrase must be altered. This phrase uses the word “pakkopulla”, which translates roughly as “a mandatory bun”. The phrase is used when something nasty or unenjoyable is to be done.

But everyone knows that buns are good. Even if a bun is mandatory, it’s still good. The phrase has it totally wrong. The Society recommends that the phrase is altered so that it does not mention buns in a negative context. Cooked cabbage would make a perfect substitute for this purpose.

Bun of course

February 7th, 2006 by erkki

A fellow FBS founder and I recently attended a two-day course at Hotel Keurusselkä in Keuruu in Central Finland. It was there that we enjoyed this quite-sweet-but-not-too-sweet and all in all very delicious piece of cake.

There are some eerie coincidences about this cake, though. Like I said, it was served to us in Keuruu, a place where I once served the Finnish war machine for nearly a year. Another FBS founder is also known to have lived in Keuruu in his youth. As if that were not enough, the cake was baked by Elosen Leipomo, a bakery in Jämsä, the home town of another FBS founder! This can’t all be just coincidence. Maybe the bunkind is trying to contact mankind. Maybe they are trying to tell us to eat more buns and they have chosen our Society to be the messenger.

A Quiz

February 5th, 2006 by hate

Hello, fellow bunsters. To bring some excitement into a boring day, i have decided to give a quiz! There is just one question waiting to be answered: what is wrong in the picture?

The winner, surprisingly, is the one who answers correctly – or incorrectly if the answer is amusing enough.

The prize this time is a big, sweet, tasty, warm and self-funded monster-bun, definitely worth winning!

Complimentary bun

The Friday Bun Society is proud to present the first Bun of Corruption in the history of the Society. This delicious cake was provided as a heartful gift by the café Nostalgia. There’s no doubt what is the best place to go for a Friday Bun!

Christmas Bun

It’s already almost Christmas, so here’s an xmas-related bun post (a.k.a. xrbp). This is the kind of bun that people like to eat during Christmas time at least in Finland. The black stuff is plum jam. If you have seen these appear elsewhere, please let the Society know.
