Hello from Yellowknife

Hello from Yellowknife. Marita reporting from the Arctic Circle group, Oct 6/07.

I have no photos as I forgot to bring my camera. My tale is of frustration. I went downtown, uptown & even to a film festival, looking for breaded edibles, but found no “buns”. I ate an “apple-cheese danish” at one of my stops – the popular coffee chain Tim Horton’s (started decades ago by a professional hockey player – it was good, but it wasn’t even round. It was in the shape of a bird’s wing.

At the grocery store (Extra Foods) I found cookies, cinnamon fingers, muffins, pita, & all-kinds of intestine-challenging scones & bread products. I ended up buying a sugar-charged chocolate chip cookie. (Doesn’t count.)

At the Yellowknife film Festival (they were showing THE VENUS THEORY directed by Pasi Toiviainen, & other truly depressing climate change films) they had all kinds of candy, popcorn & even pre-packaged cupcakes. I ate nothing.

  1. Tero P Says:

We need to do whatever we can to ensure that bunless festivals are not profitable for the organizers. My sympathy is with you, Marita.

Also, there’s an interesting detail here: should we, as the highest authority of bunkind, put out more specific details about the acceptable shapes of buns? We have perhaps been a bit too open-minded with our rules so far.
